A truck loaded with second-hand bales has overturned at the Alajo traffic light in Accra, causing a major traffic jam that lasted several hours.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, brought traffic on the busy stretch to a standstill as commuters struggled to navigate the area.

Adom News’ Serwaah Prempeh reported that the truck, which was heading towards Achimota, lost control and somersaulted, spilling its contents onto the road.

Traffic officers and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) quickly arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore order. No casualties were reported.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established, although some drivers attributed it to possible brake failure or overloading.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution when using the stretch, especially during peak hours, as similar incidents have occurred in the area due to heavy traffic and road conditions.

Traffic has since returned to normal after the truck was towed away.
