Emergency responders are battling both fire and flooding after a blaze broke out at a rubber factory at Odawna in Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), supported by rescue teams, have been deployed to the scene to contain the fire and assist individuals believed to be trapped inside the facility.
However, flooding in the area has significantly hampered access to the factory, with submerged roads slowing the movement of fire tenders and other emergency vehicles.
Eyewitnesses say parts of the access roads to the factory were inundated following hours of heavy rainfall, forcing firefighters to navigate difficult conditions before reaching the scene.
Rescue operations are currently underway as emergency teams work to evacuate trapped individuals while firefighters battle the raging blaze.
The incident comes amid widespread flooding across parts of Accra, including Kwame Nkrumah Circle and surrounding communities, where overflowing drains and rising water levels have disrupted traffic and stranded commuters.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there have been no official reports on casualties or the extent of damage to the facility.
