The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has handed over five buses to the Koforidua Branch of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) as part of the government’s ongoing fleet expansion programme aimed at improving public transportation services across the country.
The five buses form part of 12 allocated to the Eastern Region from a nationwide distribution of 100 newly procured 29-seater buses.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Minister said the buses would be stationed in Koforidua to strengthen public transport services and improve mobility within the region.

“I was pleased to hand over keys to five (5) buses, out of twelve (12) allocated to the Eastern Region under Government’s fleet expansion programme, to the Koforidua Branch of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to support public transportation services in the Region,” she stated.
“The buses, which form part of 100 newly procured 29-seater buses being distributed nationwide, will be stationed in Koforidua,” she added.
According to Madam Awatey, the intervention underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and ensuring residents have access to dependable and affordable public transport services.
“This intervention reflects Government’s commitment to expanding access to safe, reliable and affordable public transportation and improving mobility for residents across the country,” she noted.
She further urged the management of Metro Mass Transit to place a premium on regular maintenance of the vehicles to guarantee efficient operations and sustained service delivery.
“I also encouraged management to prioritise proper maintenance to ensure efficient operations and reliable services within and beyond the Eastern Region,” she said.
