Ghana and England played out a hard-fought goalless draw at the Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, leaving Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup delicately poised with both teams level on four points after two matches.
Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz made four changes to the side that edged Panama 1-0 in their opening fixture, handing starts to Thomas Partey, Inaki Williams, Benjamin Asare and Kwasi Sibo in a 4-3-3 setup.
Asare replaced Lawrence Ati-Zigi in goal, while the defensive quartet of Marvin Senaya, Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku and Gideon Mensah retained their places.
England controlled much of the early possession through the midfield pairing of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, but Ghana remained compact and disciplined, with Partey, Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi effectively disrupting the Three Lions’ rhythm.
The clearest opportunity of the opening half fell to Harry Kane in the 34th minute, but Asare produced an excellent save at close range to keep the scores level.
Ghana came closest to breaking the deadlock shortly after the hour mark. Inaki Williams raced in behind John Stones and forced Jordan Pickford into a fine save, before Antoine Semenyo blazed the rebound over the crossbar.
Both managers introduced fresh legs in the closing stages as England pushed for a winner. Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford tested Asare from distance, while Jordan Ayew and Semenyo threatened on the counterattack for Ghana.
However, neither side could find the decisive goal in front of a crowd of 65,878, with the contest ending in a tense 0-0 draw.
The result leaves both Ghana and England on four points in Group L heading into the final round of group matches. The Black Stars will now turn their attention to a crucial encounter against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 28.
