Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser, Joshua Akamba, has strongly denied any involvement in wrongdoing following reports that he escorted a Chinese company to seize a mining site at Prestea-Bondae in the Western Region.
Reacting on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Akamba explained that he got involved only after his uncle informed him about the escalating tensions between two companies operating at the site.
“My uncle called to inform me about the issue at Bondae and requested that I intervene. So I called for a meeting between the two companies, for us to sit and talk to address all grievances and decide the way forward, even if it is about making payments,” he said.
According to Akamba, a meeting took place at the Lancaster Hotel, where both parties agreed to return to the site. However, the one company failed to show up at the site on the agreed dates.
He insisted that his role was purely that of a mediator trying to ensure peace and fairness.
Akamba, who described himself as a respected figure capable of mediating even marital issues due to his influence, maintained that he acted in good faith to resolve the conflict peacefully.
“I was there to resolve the issue so they can work together,” he stressed. “What have I done wrong for anybody to drag my name? I am not part of any wrongdoing for anyone to descend on me. I was only there to mediate.”
Akamba defended Long Shine as a legitimate company, comparing it to other major mining operations in the country.
“It is a legitimate company just like Damang, and I wonder if anybody can go to Damang to stop Ibrahim Mahama’s operations,” he questioned.
“I have known them for seven years but never been involved in their business. How can a majority shareholder be treated this way? It was like a coup d’état.”
He revealed that National Security had contacted the Chinese company over a petition filed against them and expressed confidence in the government’s intervention.
“The government has assured me the right thing will be done, so I will give them time. I’m waiting on the government to act.
“If this is not correct, I will go to the Chinese Embassy and tell them everything I know about this issue. I am with Long Shine and on the side of truth,” he stated.
