Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to defeat England as the Black Stars prepare for a crucial Group L encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars, making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, will face the Three Lions on Tuesday in their second group match after opening their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama at the BMO Field.

Speaking to the Ghana FA website, the Ghana captain stressed that the team remains focused on taking the tournament one match at a time despite the magnitude of the upcoming fixture.

“We have two important games left. We take it game by game,” Ayew said.

“We are focused on getting the three points in the next match, and after that we will think about the last game.”

England head into the contest full of confidence after beginning their World Cup campaign with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Another win for the European side would guarantee qualification to the knockout stages.

However, Ghana know that securing a positive result against England would significantly boost their chances of advancing to the round of 32 ahead of their final group match against Croatia.

Ayew admitted that England possess considerable quality but insisted the Black Stars have enough belief and determination to pull off an upset.

“It’s always difficult playing at the World Cup. There are no easy games, but we believe in ourselves, and we feel that anything is possible.”

The four-time African champions will conclude their Group L campaign against Croatia four days after the England fixture, with hopes of reaching the knockout stages for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
