Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been injured in a shooting incident at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo,

The former Gender Minister is receiving medical treatment after allegedly being grazed by a bullet during the shooting incident on Sunday.

According to sources, Adwoa Safo was at the property when gunshots were fired amid tensions linked to the ongoing leadership succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement, following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Witnesses claim some armed persons opened fire during a gathering organised in support of efforts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as successor to the late founder.

Unconfirmed reports indicate about 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged. Sources close to former MP say one of the bullets grazed her near the neck but she is in stable condition.

The incident adds to a growing legal and family dispute over succession arrangements within the Kristo Asafo movement.

Earlier this week, two church members filed a suit at the Accra High Court seeking to block Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena from being recognised as the church’s leader.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
