Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has acknowledged the challenge awaiting the Black Stars against England but insists the team is fully focused on securing another crucial victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions began their campaign on a winning note, edging Panama 1-0 at BMO Field thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi’s dramatic stoppage-time strike.

Despite coming under sustained pressure for much of the contest, Ghana showed resilience to claim all three points.

Attention has now turned to a highly anticipated clash against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, with Semenyo expecting a difficult encounter against the European giants.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” he told the Ghana FA Media.

“I feel like we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. We know we want to win that game, but we know it’s not going to be easy either.

“Make sure we recover well now and make sure we train well leading up to the England game.”

The 26-year-old also expressed excitement about coming up against familiar faces from the English game, describing the fixture as an opportunity for Ghana to make a statement on the world stage.

“It’s going to be different for sure. I’m looking forward to the challenge.

” I think everyone in the Ghana team is looking forward to it. We want to prove a point. I’m just going to leave that message out there,” he added.

A positive result against England would significantly strengthen Ghana’s chances of progressing from the group stage before they conclude their campaign against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars are chasing a place in the knockout rounds for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup and will be eager to build on the momentum generated by their opening victory over Panama.
