Ghana winger Antoine Semenyo has called for calm and focus within the Black Stars camp ahead of their clash against England despite their hard-fought opening victory over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions began their Group L campaign with a narrow 1-0 win at BMO Field in Toronto, where Caleb Yirenkyi struck late to seal all three points in a tense encounter that had appeared destined for a goalless draw.
Speaking after the match, where he was named Man of the Match, Semenyo stressed the need for discipline and humility as Ghana prepare for tougher challenges ahead, beginning with a high-profile meeting against England.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Semenyo stated when questioned about the Three Lions.
“We are not going to be ahead of ourselves. We want to win that game, but we know it’s not going to be easy,” the Manchester City forward added.
Ghana’s victory places them in a strong position in Group L, with crucial fixtures against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 still to come.
The result also boosts hopes of a first knockout-stage appearance since Ghana’s memorable run to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
