The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), has commenced scientific examination of narcotic exhibits earmarked for destruction as part of preparations for the 2026 World Drug Day commemoration.

The exercise, led by the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, brings together forensic experts from NACOC and scientific analysts from the GSA to conduct detailed testing and verification of all seized substances scheduled for destruction on June 24, 2026.

The two-day exercise is being conducted under strict supervision to ensure accountability, transparency, and adherence to legal procedures governing the disposal of narcotic exhibits.

According to officials, the scientific sampling and analysis will form the basis of a comprehensive report to be submitted to a court of competent jurisdiction to secure authorisation for the destruction of the exhibits.

Brig Gen Mantey stressed that NACOC remains committed to maintaining the highest standards in the handling of seized narcotics, noting that the process is critical to sustaining public confidence in the country’s drug control system.

He added that the collaboration between NACOC and the GSA reflects strengthened institutional coordination in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The Commission said all analytical work is expected to be completed by Thursday, June 11, 2026, with quality assurance measures in place to ensure accuracy and credibility of findings.

The planned destruction of the exhibits forms part of activities marking World Drug Day 2026, aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and reinforcing national efforts to combat trafficking and illicit substance use.
