The Akim Oda Police Division in the Eastern Region has arrested one suspect in connection with the alleged theft of cocoa beans from a truck en route to the Tema Port.

The suspect, identified as Kwasi Brako, popularly known as “Anas,” was picked up on Monday evening at Akyem Asuboa in the Asene Manso Akroso District. Several other suspects believed to be involved in the incident are currently on the run.

According to police reports, the truck with registration number AS 3650-S was transporting cocoa beans from Akyem Oda to the Tema Port when it made a brief stop at Akyem Asuboa due to a mechanical fault.

It was during this stop that the suspects allegedly took advantage of the situation and began offloading sacks of cocoa beans from the vehicle.

Personnel from the FPU Patrol Team of the Akim Oda Divisional Command reportedly spotted the act in progress and moved in to intervene. The suspects, upon noticing the police presence, fled the scene.

Following intelligence-led operations, police later tracked down and arrested Kwasi Brako after he allegedly resisted arrest and engaged officers in a struggle. The remaining suspects managed to escape and are being pursued.

The suspect is currently receiving treatment at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital after sustaining injuries during the arrest.

Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend the other individuals involved.
