A man has been rescued by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after spending an entire night stranded on a tree when floodwaters swept away his vehicle at Klagon near Lashibi in the Tema Municipality.

The dramatic rescue, which took place on Thursday morning, attracted cheers and applause from residents who had gathered at the scene to witness the operation.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was returning home from work on Wednesday evening when he attempted to drive through a flooded section of the road. His vehicle was reportedly swept off the road by fast-rising floodwaters, forcing him to escape and climb a nearby tree to save his life, where he remained stranded until rescue teams arrived the following morning.

Residents said they had warned the driver against using the road due to the strong current, but he reportedly ignored the advice and proceeded.

Moments later, his vehicle was swept away by the rushing floodwaters.

In a desperate bid to save his life, the man managed to grab hold of a nearby tree, where he remained trapped throughout the night as the floodwaters raged below.

The following morning, officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene and successfully rescued him, bringing an end to the harrowing ordeal.

Residents erupted in jubilation as the rescue team brought the survivor to safety.

A witness to both the incident and the rescue operation, Isaac Essel, told Adom News that flooding in the area has become a growing concern.

According to him, the situation has worsened since the construction of a bridge in the community, leaving residents increasingly vulnerable whenever heavy rains occur.

The incident comes amid renewed concerns about flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region following recent downpours that have caused widespread destruction and displacement in several communities.
