Residents at the scene of the Adenta New Site building collapse came to the aid of emergency responders after an ambulance transporting a rescued victim developed a mechanical fault, in a remarkable display of community spirit.
The ambulance, which was conveying one of the victims rescued from the collapsed structure to a medical facility for urgent treatment, reportedly broke down moments after leaving the disaster scene, bringing the journey to an unexpected halt.
With every second critical in ensuring the victim received timely medical attention, concerned residents and bystanders quickly sprang into action. Several people assisted emergency personnel by pushing the ambulance to get it moving again so it could continue its journey, while responders coordinated efforts to ensure the victim remained safe.
The incident occurred amid ongoing rescue operations at Adenta New Site, where personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces have been working tirelessly to rescue trapped persons and assist those affected by the building collapse.
Currently, four victims, including a teenager, have been rescued, with one person reported to be in critical condition.
