The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, outlining schedules for single-track and transitional schools.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, GES said the calendar is intended to guide school administrators, teachers, students, and parents in planning for the academic year. It includes reopening dates, vacation periods, online learning arrangements, and examination timelines.
GES urged all stakeholders to take note of the approved dates and make the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth academic year.
For single-track schools, Form One and Form Two students will begin the academic year on September 18, 2026, and continue the first semester until January 29, 2027.
They will go on vacation from January 30 to March 29, 2027, before resuming the second semester from March 30 to July 30, 2027. The academic year ends on July 31, 2027.
Form Three students will have their first semester from September 18 to December 18, 2026, followed by vacation from December 19, 2026, to January 31, 2027. They will resume on February 1, 2027, and conclude the academic year on June 18, 2027.
In transitional schools, the academic calendar combines classroom and online learning.
Form One students will report on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until November 13, 2026. They will continue online from November 16 to December 18, 2026, followed by a break from December 19, 2026, to February 7, 2027.
They will return to school from February 8 to April 16, 2027, continue online learning from April 19 to May 14, and proceed on vacation from May 15 to June 20, 2027. The second semester runs from June 21 to August 27, 2027, when the academic year ends.
Form Two students will begin on November 16, 2026, and stay in school until February 5, 2027. They will switch to online learning from February 8 to March 5, followed by vacation from March 6 to April 18, 2027. The second semester runs from April 19 to August 27, 2027.
Final-year students will begin on September 18, 2026, and continue until December 18, 2026. After the Christmas break from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, they will resume on January 5, 2027, and continue until June 18, 2027.
GES also announced key breaks and examination timelines. The Christmas break will run from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break is scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
A mid-semester break for Form Two students has been set for June 17 to June 20, 2027.
The 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to take place from April 6 to June 28, 2027.
GES has therefore called on all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the calendar and make adequate preparations ahead of the September 2026 reopening.
