President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says the Black Stars are capable of giving England a tough challenge when the two sides meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana are set to face the Three Lions in their second Group L fixture at Gillette Stadium on June 23, following their opening match against Panama in the USA, Canada and Mexico tournament.

Speaking to Sky Sports during a visit to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom, Okraku praised England’s quality and acknowledged the influence of their coach Thomas Tuchel, while insisting Ghana will be highly competitive.

“I think that England has a good team. We must respect the manager and the experience that he brings on board,” he said.

“But what is also true is that they will meet a very, very competitive and determined Ghanaian side,” Okraku added.

Meanwhile, preparations for the tournament have already begun, with the Black Stars training in Cardiff ahead of their pre-World Cup friendly against Wales on June 2 under head coach Carlos Queiroz at Dragon Park.

The team is expected to remain in Wales for a week before travelling to the United States for the next phase of their buildup.

Queiroz is set to name his final 26-man squad on June 1.

Ghana, four-time African champions, are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010, having suffered early exits in 2014 and 2022.
