National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has praised the people of the Tolon Constituency for their sacrifices during the 2024 general elections, describing the constituency as one that deserves the highest gratitude from the party.

Speaking during his ongoing thank-you tour of the constituency, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the people of Tolon not only invested their time, energy and resources into the campaign but also lost one of their own, Haruna Shaibu, popularly known as Alhaji.

“If anyone deserves more thanks, nobody deserves more thanks than the Tolon Constituency for the 2024 elections because you didn’t spend your money and energy alone, but you lost a dear brother,” he stated.

According to him, the sacrifices of individuals like Alhaji contributed significantly to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections.

“So it is because of the sacrifice of people like Alhaji that the NDC is in power now. If we win and we don’t take the trouble to remember those who sacrificed to put us in power, then we have to be grateful,” he added.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia acknowledged the growing frustration among some youth in the constituency, saying many felt disappointed over what they perceived as a lack of action regarding the death of their colleague.

“There were times when you came to Nyankpala to campaign and there would be so much crowd, so we ask ourselves why some of the youth are angry today. It is because they worked for the party and a hero lost his life for the party, and they don’t appear to see anything being done about it,” he said.

The NDC Chairman said he personally shares in the pain of the constituency and feels a sense of responsibility over the incident.

“As chairman, my guilt is that if we had not asked those people to go out and campaign, perhaps they would not have lost their lives. I carry a heavier responsibility of ensuring that we have justice for Alhaji,” he stressed.

He assured supporters that the party remains committed to seeking justice for the late Haruna Shaibu, insisting that all members are fighting the same cause together.
