An uncompleted Agenda 111 project in the Awutu Senya East Municipality has been taken over by criminals and squatters after the contractor abandoned the site following the 2024 general elections, leaving residents increasingly vulnerable and without the healthcare facility they were promised.

The project, located at Jei River, a suburb of Kasoa Ofaakor in the Central Region, is estimated to be approximately 41 percent complete. Construction began in 2023 — two years behind the original 2021 schedule — due to land disputes, but work came to a halt shortly after the elections.

Residents say the abandoned site has since become a hideout for criminals and a habitat for wild animals. They add that attacks on community members, including senior high school students, have become a worrying pattern — made worse by the fact that the facility sits close to the Municipal Assembly.

The need for the hospital is acute. Kasoa has a population of over 236,000, according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, but is served by only one polyclinic and a mother and child hospital. Many residents currently travel as far as Winneba and Weija-Gbawe to access medical care, a burden they say the completed facility would have significantly reduced.

Residents are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Health to intervene and ensure the contractor returns to the site to complete the project.
