The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) of the Central East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Kasoa, has rescued a five-year-old girl allegedly stolen and sold by a suspected child trafficking syndicate involving a midwife.

The rescue operation follows ongoing investigations into a suspected child stealing and trafficking network believed to have operated across parts of the country.

According to police sources, the child was allegedly taken and sold through a syndicate involving a midwife linked to the Mother and Child Hospital at Osu and several accomplices.

The victim has since been rescued safely by investigators at Kasoa.

The latest development comes after the arrest of a midwife at the Osu Mother and Child Hospital, a retired midwife, and five other suspects who were accused of allegedly stealing and selling children across the country.

The suspects were earlier arraigned before court as investigations into the alleged trafficking network continue.

The case sparked widespread public concern following reports that vulnerable mothers and newborns may have been targeted by the syndicate over a period of time.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify possible additional victims and accomplices.

Among the accused persons is Lucinda Naomi Otchere, a midwife at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu. The other suspects have been identified as Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie and Regina Agyeiwaa.
