NPP Flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has met with the full Minority Caucus of Parliament and outlined a four-pillar strategic framework to guide the opposition’s conduct in the coming parliamentary session, insisting that every action in and out of the Chamber must be calculated, evidence-based, and focused on rebuilding public trust ahead of 2028.
The meeting, held ahead of the House’s resumption on Thursday, was described by attendees as a detailed strategic briefing, where the Flagbearer outlined four key priorities: positioning the NPP as a government-in-waiting, holding the NDC administration accountable, defending the party’s record in government, and strengthening unity within the Caucus.
Pillar One: Position As Government-In-Waiting
Dr. Bawumia said the NPP must project itself as a party ready to govern from January 2029, stressing that MPs’ parliamentary work, media engagements, and public messaging must consistently reflect that goal.
Pillar Two: Persistent Accountability
He directed the Minority to rigorously scrutinise the NDC government’s campaign promises, adding that his office is compiling records of those commitments to support coordinated accountability efforts.
“We cannot wait until 2028. This must be done now,” he said.
Pillar Three: Defend The NPP Record
Dr. Bawumia urged MPs to strongly defend the party’s achievements in government, insisting that the NPP record must not be left to opposition interpretation.
Pillar Four: Guard Internal Unity
On unity, he called for discipline and internal consultation, urging MPs to present a united front while resolving disagreements internally.
“Let us walk into the Chamber on Thursday calm, confident, and prepared, not as an aggrieved party, but as a government-in-waiting,” he stated.
