The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has launched an emergency response and assessment exercise following a destructive rainstorm that hit Assin Akrofuom and Assin Anyinabrim in the Assin South District.
The storm, which occurred on Sunday, May 17, 2026, left several residents displaced and caused significant damage to homes and properties in the affected communities.
A delegation led by the Central Regional Director of NADMO, together with the Assin South Director and zonal directors, moved into the communities shortly after the incident to engage victims, traditional leaders and local authorities.

The team’s immediate focus was to conduct rapid damage assessments, provide psychosocial support to affected persons and coordinate temporary shelter arrangements through NADMO’s designated safe havens and traditional coping systems.
Officials also used the engagement to sensitise residents on disaster risk reduction measures, including safe building practices, roof reinforcement techniques and the dangers of taking shelter under weak structures or trees during severe weather conditions.

The Regional Directorate is currently compiling verified field data to guide the swift distribution of relief items to affected households.
In addition, technical recommendations are being developed to support safer reconstruction and improve long-term community resilience against future storms.
