Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has praised Antoine Semenyo after the forward inspired Manchester City to FA Cup glory with a stunning winning goal against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.

The 26-year-old produced a brilliant backheel finish in the second half to hand City a 1-0 victory and secure the FA Cup title after a tense and closely contested final.

Semenyo, who joined Manchester City from AFC Bournemouth in January, has enjoyed a sensational run of form since his arrival and capped it with the biggest goal of his career.

Reacting after the match, Gyan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to celebrate the striker’s achievement and urge Ghanaians to appreciate his success.

“Every Ghanaian should be proud of this guy,” Gyan posted.

The strike also saw Semenyo make history as the first Ghanaian player to score in an FA Cup final.

With the goal against Chelsea, Semenyo has now scored 20 goals in all competitions this season, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian for a Premier League club in a single campaign.

He surpasses the previous mark of 19 set by Tony Yeboah for Leeds United during the 1995/96 season.

Semenyo’s performances this season have also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Year award
