Deputy spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has stated that the recent arrest of some communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by security agencies will not intimidate members of the party.
Speaking on Nnawotwe Yi on Adom TV, she alleged that the arrests were intended to instill fear among NPP communicators and suppress their activities.
She noted that some of those arrested had been accused and charged with publishing false news, but maintained that the allegations were without merit.
According to Dr. Amoakoh, the accusations amount to harassment and a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from what she described as the government’s poor performance.
“The NPP was born out of harassment and cannot be tamed by what is happening,” she stated.
She further explained that although she does not support insults or abusive politics, she questioned what she described as selective action by security agencies.
According to her, if the arrests are being carried out to sanitize the political space, then communicators of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who allegedly engage in similar conduct should also face the same treatment.
Dr. Amoakoh argued that NPP communicators are only highlighting issues affecting the country, including power challenges, governance concerns and economic hardship.
She questioned why security agencies were pursuing NPP communicators for expressing concerns about developments in the country.
