Assistant coach of the Black Stars, Desmond Ofei, says the team is in high spirits ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Mexico as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will face Mexico on May 22 in North America as part of their build-up to the global tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico later this summer.
The Black Stars technical team, led by head coach Carlos Queiroz, has named a 23-man squad for the encounter, blending locally based players with emerging young talents.
Speaking to Flashscore, Ofei expressed confidence in the quality and determination within the squad, stressing that the players are eager to impress both the nation and the technical team.
“For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz,” Ofei said.
Following the Mexico clash, the Black Stars will conclude their preparatory fixtures with another friendly against Wales on June 2.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The four-time African champions will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
