The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), William Agyapong, has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Akwamu Adumasa, Nana Ansah Kwao IV, as part of efforts to strengthen support for a military accommodation initiative.
The visit follows the launch of a trust fund aimed at addressing the long-standing accommodation challenges facing personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking during the visit, Nana Ansah Kwao IV explained that the CDS, upon assuming office, identified the poor state of military housing as a major concern dating back to the colonial era.
According to the chief, Lieutenant General Agyapong acknowledged that government alone could not shoulder the financial burden of resolving the accommodation deficit and therefore engaged Corporate Ghana for support.
He noted that at an event held on April 25, Corporate Ghana responded positively to the appeal, leading to the establishment of a trust fund to mobilise resources for the construction of accommodation for soldiers.
Nana Ansah Kwao IV disclosed that he was honoured to be nominated as a member of the board of trustees for the fund.
“The CDS and his team came to show appreciation today. Myself, my chiefs and elders welcomed him wholeheartedly and pledged our support in any way we can,” he said.
The chief further appealed to Corporate Ghana to continue supporting the initiative to improve the welfare and living conditions of military personnel across the country.
