Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has pointed to the poor condition of the pitch at Golden City Park as a key factor in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday.
The result dealt a blow to Medeama’s title ambitions, with the “Mauve and Yellow” side surrendering an early lead before being punished by the hosts.
Speaking after the match, Tanko expressed frustration with the playing surface, arguing that it contributed to defensive errors that proved costly.
“The pitch did not help us, and you could see that we made a lot of unusual mistakes at the back. Look at the two goals we conceded after scoring a very good goal from Kelvin Nkrumah,” Tanko told the club’s media.
Despite the setback, the Medeama coach insisted the title race remains open with only a few matches left in the season.
“We still have three games, and the battle for the title is always going to be like that until the last game,” he added.
The defeat leaves Medeama SC on 56 points, although their lead has been trimmed further after Bibiani Gold Stars closed the gap to just two points following a 2-0 win over FC Samartex 1996.
Medeama now turn their attention to their next assignment away to Basake Holy Stars on Sunday, May 10, in Matchday 32 of the Ghana Premier League.
