Some disqualified members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atiwa East Constituency of the Eastern Region are appealing to the party’s leadership to reconsider their status and reinstate them as delegates ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The appeal comes as the party continues its vetting process for members seeking to occupy various constituency-level positions.
In Atiwa East, about 26 members were disqualified after it was established that they had supported an independent candidate in previous elections—an action deemed to be in violation of party regulations.
However, the affected individuals say they are remorseful and are pleading for forgiveness in the interest of unity and progress within the party.
One of the disqualified members, speaking on behalf of the group, appealed to Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s national executives to consider their plea and allow them back into the party’s fold.
According to them, bringing all members on board will strengthen the party’s grassroots support and enhance its chances of securing victory in the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee in the constituency, Perry Appiah, indicated that the vetting process has so far been smooth, with strong support from the Member of Parliament and local party executives.
He noted that the committee has not encountered major challenges in carrying out its mandate.
The development is ongoing efforts within the party to strike a balance between enforcing discipline and fostering reconciliation as it prepares for future political activities.
