Residents of Kwame Asantekrom in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region can now heave a sigh of relief after the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Mohammed, commissioned a new borehole water system to address years of water scarcity and associated health risks.
The intervention is expected to significantly reduce water-borne diseases in the community, where residents have long depended on unsafe water sources for drinking and domestic use.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the MP said the project was inspired by what he observed during the 2024 campaign period, when he noticed the poor quality of water being used by residents, most of whom are farmers.

He described the situation as worrying, stressing that access to clean and safe water is a basic necessity that should not be compromised.
According to him, the provision of potable water remains a key priority under his leadership, adding that efforts will be made to address water challenges in all communities within the constituency, regardless of size or location.

Residents, including Yaa Serwaa, Afia Amponsaa and Prince Nkum, expressed gratitude to the MP for the intervention, saying the community has endured years of water difficulties.
They noted that the use of unsafe water had previously contributed to frequent cases of typhoid and other illnesses, and welcomed the borehole as a timely relief.

The project is expected to improve sanitation, enhance public health, and ease the daily burden of accessing clean water in the community.
