Former Black Stars defender Daniel Opare has raised concerns over Ghana’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team could struggle significantly if Mohammed Kudus fails to recover from injury in time for the tournament.
The 25-year-old midfielder is currently sidelined with an injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season, casting doubt over his availability for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“If he doesn’t come back, we’re in deep trouble,” Opare told Joy Sports.
“Like I said, football is, you know, the ones there can play, but I think with Kudus in there, he will add more value to the team.
“So, you know, fingers crossed, we pray that he recovers on time so that he can make the World Cup.”
Kudus had been in impressive form before his setback, registering nine goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur following his move, before the injury halted his campaign in January.
Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to submit his final squad list by June 1 for the expanded 48-team tournament.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth World Cup appearance after being drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and wrap up their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 27.
