Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser, Gloria Korshior Huze, has raised concerns over the role of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu in matters relating to stool lands, insisting that the MCE does not have authority to directly interfere in traditional land issues.

Her comments come after tensions over a disputed land matter in the Ejisu Municipality involving the MCE, Jerryne Asante.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Huze argued that while the MCE has jurisdiction over the municipality, she is not a representative of the Krapa stool lands.

“The Municipal Chief Executive is responsible for Ejisu, but not a representative for Krapa stool lands,” she said.

She explained that land matters involving stool lands should ordinarily be handled through traditional authorities and not solely by the MCE.

“When it comes to land issues, the MCE is not a representative. She is MCE for Ejisu, not Krapa hene,” she stated.

Madam Huze questioned why, if complaints were made to the MCE by chiefs, she was not contacted directly before any action was taken.

“If indeed the chiefs went to complain that I have taken their lands, what prevented the MCE from calling me to discuss it? Why go behind me to destroy my property?” she asked.

She further argued that as a regional party executive, she should have been engaged directly if there were any issues concerning her activities.

“If she is a good leader, she could have called me to inform me about any development. I have not challenged any chief over that land,” she added.

Madam Huze also questioned why the matter was not formally reported to the police if there were allegations of wrongdoing.

“If I had chased chiefs from the land with guns, why didn’t they report it to the police instead of going to the MCE?” she queried.

Her remarks follow ongoing tensions in Ejisu over alleged disputes involving a warehouse and land use, which have sparked conflicting accounts between local political actors and municipal authorities.
