Hartford Athletic have confirmed that Daniel Gaspar has joined the Ghana national team’s technical setup as goalkeepers’ coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Gaspar links up with newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, renewing a professional partnership that stretches back more than three decades. The pair have worked together in various capacities since 1992, developing a long-standing collaboration across both club and international football.
The experienced Portuguese goalkeeping specialist brings a wealth of knowledge built over decades in the game. His coaching career includes spells with the Portuguese national team setup in the early 1990s and again between 2009 and 2010, where he worked with several youth sides.
Gaspar has also served with the South African national team and held club roles at Sporting CP, Nagoya Grampus Eight, and the NY/NJ MetroStars. In 2003, he was part of Portugal’s coaching staff under Luiz Felipe Scolari before later working with José Antonio Camacho at Benfica.
He reunited with Queiroz in 2011 during their stint with Iran, where he served as assistant and goalkeeping coach. The partnership proved fruitful as Iran secured qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and reached the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Since joining Hartford Athletic in 2022, Gaspar has played a key role in the club’s progress, helping deliver two of their strongest seasons in 2024 and 2025. Last year, he was part of the staff that guided Hartford to their first-ever silverware with the USL Jägermeister Cup triumph. The club has also recorded four clean sheets in seven league matches so far in 2026 under his guidance.
Ghana head into the 2026 World Cup—what will be their fifth appearance—drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Queiroz has been tasked with leading Ghana beyond the group stage after disappointing early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
