New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has travelled to Europe as part of an early scouting tour aimed at assessing Ghanaian players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed.
The Portuguese tactician, who recently replaced Otto Addo and was unveiled in Accra last week, has wasted no time getting to work on shaping his squad for the tournament.
Before departing, Queiroz observed locally based players during Black Galaxies’ friendly matches against Aduana Stars and Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium, continuing his initial evaluation of domestic talent.
As part of his broader preparations, the experienced coach has also engaged key senior members of the national team, including the captain and a prominent midfield figure, in discussions focused on leadership and expectations for the World Cup campaign.
His European tour is expected to include meetings with several established internationals and promising prospects, alongside match attendance across major leagues where Ghanaian players are active.
The trip forms a key pillar of Queiroz’s planning process, allowing him to communicate his tactical ideas, assess player form, and refine his strategy ahead of the tournament. He is being supported by members of his technical team, who are assisting with scouting and player engagement.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Queiroz has been tasked with improving Ghana’s fortunes on the global stage after successive group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
