Three Chinese nationals have been arrested at Assin Akomfode Camp in the Assin North District of the Central Region over suspected illegal mining activities.

The suspects were picked up by the Blue Water Guard team in the district following a tip-off from the Assin North District Chief Executive (DCE).

Speaking to Alfred Amoh, leader of the Assin North Blue Water Guard team, Eric Tetteh confirmed that the suspects have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service, Assin North District Command, for further investigation.

He added that an excavator and other equipment being assembled for the alleged illegal mining operation will be removed from the site to prevent further environmental damage.
