Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy, Prof. Isaac Boadi, has defended the Mahama-led administration’s efforts in tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, he stated that it would be misleading to suggest that the government has made no attempts to address the issue.

According to him, while the previous administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made efforts to combat galamsey, those attempts were largely unsuccessful, which contributed to public dissatisfaction.

He noted that the current government has taken visible steps, including arrests and enforcement actions, in its fight against illegal mining.

Prof. Boadi emphasized that acknowledging these efforts is important, regardless of political affiliation.

He added that it would be unfair and unethical for anyone to claim that the government has not made any attempt to address the galamsey menace.

“It would be suic!dal for anyone to claim they have not seen any attempt by this administration in the fight against galamsey.” he said
