Ghana has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a major return to the continental youth tournament for the first time in almost 30 years.

The announcement was made on Sunday, April 26, 2026, by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, in a post on his official Facebook page.

The West African nation last staged the competition—then known as the African Youth Championship—in 1999. On home soil that year, the Black Satellites impressed by reaching the final, but ultimately finished as runners-up to Nigeria.

Since then, Ghana has maintained a strong presence in the competition, with its most notable success coming in 2021 when the Black Satellites secured their fourth continental title.

The 2027 edition is expected to bring together some of Africa’s brightest young talents, offering a key platform for emerging stars to showcase their potential on an international stage.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to release further details on venues, dates, and organisational arrangements in the coming months.

The confirmation is being viewed as a significant boost for Ghana football, with preparations anticipated to begin in earnest as the country gears up to stage a successful continental tournament in 2027.
