Commuters at Labone Junction are calling on government to urgently resume and complete a footbridge project that has been abandoned for months, warning that the delay is putting lives at risk.

Residents and daily road users say crossing the busy dual carriageway has become increasingly dangerous, especially for students of Labone Senior High School who use the stretch regularly.

“This place is very risky. The traffic is heavy, and we are forced to cross the road every day. Authorities should not wait for a tragedy before they act,” one commuter said.

The footbridge project forms part of a broader road safety initiative aimed at constructing pedestrian bridges at accident-prone locations across the country.

Another resident expressed frustration over the prolonged delay, saying, “We were happy when the project started, but now it has been left like this for months. It’s worrying.”

The project is being undertaken by the Ministry of Roads and Highways, with technical oversight from the Department of Urban Roads, and executed by Janson Bridging.

It is funded by the Government of Ghana in partnership with Rabobank International and the Dutch government.

Commuters are urging authorities to prioritise the project and ensure its swift completion to improve safety and restore confidence in ongoing road infrastructure works.

“We just want them to finish what they started so we can cross safely,” another road user added.
