The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has cautioned teachers in the constituency against engaging in examination malpractice ahead of the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Addressing BECE candidates and teachers at an event dubbed “Elevation Conference 2026” in Kenyasi, the MP revealed that in 2025, about eight teachers in the area were arrested by the Ghana Police Service and nearly prosecuted over examination malpractice, if not for his timely intervention.

He warned that he would not intervene again if similar incidents occur this year, urging teachers to stay away from any form of malpractice.

According to him, some teachers wear “fugu”—which he described as “exam costumes”—during examinations to conceal and smuggle foreign materials to candidates.

Mr Addo expressed confidence that the situation would improve this year, noting that the previous arrests should serve as a strong deterrent.

Meanwhile, the Founder of Elevation Youth Fellowship, Francis Nsiah, also raised concern about the high rate of examination malpractice among both teachers and students.

Speaking to Adom News, he said the fellowship has taken steps to visit schools across the district to educate candidates on the dangers of engaging in malpractice.

He added that they are hopeful the sensitisation efforts will help ensure the district records no such incidents this year.
