Ghana Athletics President Bawah Fuseini has expressed concern about heading to the World Athletics Relays without a reserve, following the withdrawal of Isaac Botsio.
Ghana Athletics named a five-man squad to represent the country at the upcoming World Relays set to take place next month in Gaborone.
The team included experienced sprinters Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Joseph Paul Amoah, Isaac Botsio and Ibrahim Fusieni.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Bawah Fuseini noted his concerns after Botsio’s withdrawal, stressing the implications it could have on the team’s participation in the competition.

“We are in a precarious position, and we can’t do anything. We’re heading to the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone 26 without a reserve, and that’s very dangerous. If something were to happen to one of the other four, and we cannot take part in the 4×100, then we have to pay some penalty to World Athletics. That’s where we are now, we are working with World Athletics to see if they can do something about it,” he said.
Bawah Fuseini, however, confirmed that Isaac Botsio withdrew from the squad due to school commitments.
“He initially confirmed availability, but after his name was submitted, he became unavailable due to school commitments.”
The upcoming meet in Botswana will feature more than 700 athletes from about 40 nations and serves as a crucial qualifying event for the 2027 World Athletics Championships and the 2026 World Ultimate Championships.
