Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has backed comments by former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, urging party members not to allow intimidation to weaken them.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, he said Dr. Bawumia was right in cautioning against actions that could undermine party unity and morale.

“Dr. Bawumia was right, let’s not allow intimidation to break us,” he stated.

His comments come in the wake of a recent incident involving an NPP supporter who was reportedly arrested after posting a controversial image on social media involving President John Dramani Mahama.

Sammi Awuku acknowledged that political actors, especially younger ones, may sometimes go overboard in expressing their views, but stressed that the response from authorities should not be heavy-handed.

According to him, rather than intimidation or harassment, there should be engagement and guidance.

He explained that individuals can be called in, shown where they went wrong and advised accordingly without resorting to force.

He added that while Ghana operates a democratic system, there must still be responsible expression, but this can be achieved through dialogue rather than fear.
