The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has directed traders and transport operators to vacate pavements and overhead spaces in the Central Business District ahead of a major clean-up exercise scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2026.

The Assembly said the move is to allow for thorough cleaning of the CBD and to ensure the free flow of traffic within the metropolis.

In a public notice, it instructed all traders and transport operators who display goods on pavements and unauthorised spaces to stay away from the area on the specified dates.

It also urged shop and house owners to clear their frontages and desilt nearby drains on Friday and early Saturday morning to support sanitation efforts.

The Assembly warned that a taskforce will be deployed to enforce compliance, adding that offenders risk facing the full rigours of the law.

Management appealed to religious leaders, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and Assembly Members to help disseminate the information to ensure full compliance.

The exercise forms part of efforts to improve sanitation and ease congestion in the Central Business District.
