The Municipal Chief Executive for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, Pius Opoku, has cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern police station at Susuanso to improve security in the area.

The ceremony was attended by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, representatives of the Ghana Police Service, traditional leaders, clergy, and residents.

Speaking after the event, the MCE said the decision to construct the facility was informed by the rapid population growth in Susuanso and the absence of a police station, which he noted has contributed to rising crime levels.

He explained that residents currently travel long distances to communities such as Yamfo, Tanoso, and Duayaw Nkwanta to report cases, often resulting in delays that allow suspects to escape.

Mr. Opoku further indicated that the presence of Newmont Gold Ghana in the area has increased economic activity, making it necessary to strengthen security to protect both workers and residents.

The two-storey police station, which is being funded by the MCE with support from other individuals, is expected to be completed within eight months.

The Nifahene of Susuanso, Nana Kusi Agyapong, welcomed the project, describing it as a major step toward addressing crime in the community.

He, together with the Regional Minister, expressed optimism that the facility would enable swift police response to incidents and serve as a deterrent to criminal activities once completed.
