The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the government of carrying out what it describes as arbitrary arrests and prosecutions targeting its members, alleging a worrying pattern of politically motivated actions.

At a press conference on Wednesday, April 15, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, raised concerns over what he said were recent arrests involving members of the opposition party.

He argued that the developments undermine democratic governance and the rule of law, cautioning that such actions risk setting a dangerous precedent in the country’s political space.

According to him, the party believes there is a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence its members through arrests and prosecutions it considers unjustified and lacking legal merit.

He added that these actions, in his view, erode public confidence in the justice system and threaten constitutional freedoms.

Mr Frimpong further warned that future political outcomes could see a reversal of fortunes, insisting that today’s actions should be carefully considered by those in power.

He said: “Somewhere in 2025, this government was arresting, detaining and arbitrarily arraigning members of our party before some kangaroo courts. We came to you and we were not calling on the media, CSOs, and the clergy to come to the defense of the NPP but rather let you all be aware of what the NDC is doing.

“They are sidestepping our constitution, the respect for the rule of law, liberty, freedom of expression, and we want to send a signal to them that no condition is permanent and definitely, the tables will turn.

“And we don’t want a situation where the tables will turn, and people will come to the NPP government and ask why these things are happening.”
