Four suspects have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery incident at Sereso in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The arrests follow an attack on Monday, April 13, 2026, during which armed robbers reportedly shot and injured a 60-year-old driver, Mohammed Yakubu.

According to police, the victim was driving a blue-black Mitsubishi cargo truck with registration number AW 621-12 from Akodie towards Kumasi when the robbers opened fire on the vehicle upon reaching Sereso.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and is currently receiving treatment at the Bibiani Government Hospital.

An Anti-Robbery Team was subsequently dispatched to the scene, leading to the arrest of the four suspects. They have since been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi for further interrogation.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are linked to other recent robbery incidents, including the attack on the team bus of Berekum Chelsea.

The bus was ambushed while returning from a match against Samartex 1996, resulting in the death of player Dominic Frimpong.
