The Ghana Police Service has arrested a security guard captured in a viral video assaulting a civilian at the University of Ghana.

The suspect, identified as Ebenezer Annor Darko, was picked up by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) and is currently assisting with investigations.

The arrest follows the widespread circulation of the video on social media, which sparked public outrage over the conduct of the security officer.

The suspect, a member of the University’s Safety and Security Services Directorate (SSSD), was seen in the video beating, stomping, and slapping the victim as he struggled to free himself from the ordeal.

Police say further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.

Meanwhile, the Service has cautioned the public against engaging in instant justice, urging citizens to allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal acts through due process.
