Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President Fred Pappoe has endorsed the federation’s decision to part ways with head coach Otto Addo, just 72 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The GFA confirmed Addo’s dismissal on March 31, following a poor run of results during the most recent international window. The Black Stars suffered heavy back-to-back defeats, including a 5-1 loss to Austria and a 2-1 defeat to Germany, extending their losing streak to four matches.

The decision also comes in the wake of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the nation’s first absence from the tournament in 20 years and deepening concerns over the team’s trajectory.

Reacting to the development, Pappoe described the move as justified, pointing to a decline in performances and a lack of clear tactical direction.

“We’ve all been seeing the performance of the team, and I’m sure they looked at the recent performances and the way things are going, and I want to believe they took a good decision,” he told Joy Sports.

He stressed the urgency of appointing a new coach swiftly to stabilise preparations ahead of the global showpiece.

“The important thing is that they must quickly try to get a replacement to settle in and make sure the team gets ready for the World Cup,” Pappoe added.

GFA President Kurt Okraku has indicated that a replacement will be announced within 14 days, as the federation accelerates its search ahead of upcoming preparatory fixtures against Mexico and Wales.
