The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), in collaboration with the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI), organized a Career Services Programme at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on 13th March 2026.
The programme commenced with a short debate among final-year students of Architecture, Quantity Surveying, and Construction Technology and Management on the topic of which of the courses is the most challenging to pursue.
Among the distinguished personalities in attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Rev. Emmanuel Cherry; the President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana, Engr. Wonder Davor; the Secretary of GhCCI and member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Surv. Reginald Obeng; the Programme Director of GhCCI, Engr. Emile Boasiako; the Director of the KNUST Career Services Centre, Mrs. Selina Angmor Doe; the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Adinyira; senior lecturers of the university; students; and some alumni.
In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between industry and academia.
He noted that the time had come for the construction industry to establish a more effective interface with academic institutions in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice and enhance professional delivery.
The President of IET-GH, Engr. Wonder Davor, in his remarks, advised the students that upon completing their studies they would need to register with relevant professional bodies before they could practice professionally.
He mentioned organizations such as the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), as professional bodies that offer pathways for registration.
He encouraged the students to visit the IET-GH website (ietgh.org) to download membership application forms and begin their professional journey immediately after graduation.

Surv. Reginald Obeng, while presenting an overview of the Chamber, explained that the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry brings together professionals across the various disciplines represented within the Faculty of Built Environment.
The Dean of the Faculty, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Adinyira, encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies. He noted that many of the industry leaders present were once students of KNUST and emphasized that with dedication and perseverance, the current students could also rise to positions of leadership in the future.
The Director of the KNUST Career Services Centre, Mrs. Selina Angmor Doe, assured the students that the Centre is available to support them, particularly those experiencing challenges in securing internship placements.
The students were given the opportunity to ask questions, which were duly addressed by the speakers. Some students sought clarification on the differences between what is taught in the classroom and what is practiced in the industry, while others raised concerns about opportunities for industrial internships.
The programme concluded with networking and interactions between the students and the industry.
