President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a new pasta manufacturing facility established by Olam Agri at Kpone, describing the investment as an important step toward strengthening Ghana’s agro-industrial sector.

The factory, developed by Olam Agri Ghana, is expected to boost local food processing, create employment opportunities and reduce the country’s dependence on imported processed foods, particularly pasta.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama said investments in food processing and manufacturing are essential for transforming Ghana’s agriculture and industrial sectors.

He noted that the establishment of the facility would also strengthen local supply chains while creating opportunities for farmers, transport operators and small businesses connected to the food production value chain.

According to the President, expanding local manufacturing remains key to achieving food security and building a resilient economy capable of meeting domestic demand.

Also addressing the event, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the factory’s production capacity is expected to contribute significantly to meeting the country’s pasta consumption needs.

She added that increasing local production would help Ghana reduce imports of processed food products and conserve foreign exchange.

The Country Head of Olam Agri Ghana, Baibhav Biswas, said the company remains committed to expanding its operations in Ghana but noted that addressing certain industry challenges would require stronger collaboration with government.

He expressed optimism that partnerships between the private sector and government would help create a more favourable environment for agribusiness investments.

The new facility forms part of broader efforts to deepen agro-processing and industrialisation in Ghana while supporting local food production.
