Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom has expressed support for the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) recent revamp of the senior national team’s technical staff ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Last month, the GFA announced five new appointments aimed at strengthening the team’s backroom setup. French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren joined as assistant coaches, while Spanish strategist Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso was recruited to enhance scouting and match analysis.

Returning to the fold are Carlos Lozano Romero, the team’s physiotherapist from the 2022 World Cup, and British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

The shake-up has sparked debate among fans and pundits over its potential impact on Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Inkoom, however, sees it as a sign of serious planning and commitment by the football authorities.

Speaking to Connect FM, Inkoom commended both the GFA and the Sports Ministry for their pre-tournament preparations.

“The pre-tournament preparation by the GFA and the Sports Ministry has been great. The new addition to the technical team is a good one. Football is all about preparation, and I am happy we are preparing well,” he said.

The former defender stressed that World Cup success requires more than talent on the pitch, highlighting the importance of tactical analysis and thorough scouting.

“If you’re going to the World Cup without properly monitoring your opponents, the tournament will be very difficult for you, and you won’t enjoy it,” Inkoom added.

Ghana, making its fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will face Panama on June 17, England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Preparations include March friendlies against Austria and Germany, followed by a final warm-up match with Mexico in May. The GFA confirmed that the squad will be based at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament.
