The Electoral Commission says it has finalised all arrangements for the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3.

Fred Tetteh, the Commission’s Director of Research, assured the public that preparations are complete, covering both materials and staffing across the constituency.

“In terms of preparation, the Commission is ready. Everything is set for the poll. We are talking about logistics, personnel; yes, we are ready. The logistics and all arrangements have been made regarding the packing of materials, ballot boxes, and voting screens for the 113 polling stations where the elections will be held,” Mr. Tetteh said on Accra-based Citi FM.

The Commission disclosed that 49,966 voters are on the electoral roll in Ayawaso East, with polls scheduled to open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

Five aspirants, including former Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, are contesting the race.

Although all aspirants remain confident of victory, a poll by Global InfoAnalytics projects a 75 per cent win for Baba Jamal, who is also a former MP for Akwatia, ahead of his closest contender, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Independent aspirant Umaru Sanda Muhammed, who recently severed ties with the NDC, is projected to secure about 3 per cent of the vote.

The survey further suggests that the remaining candidates, Ibrahim Iddrisu and David, are each expected to garner less than one per cent of the total ballots cast, highlighting what appears to be a largely two-horse race between the NDC and NPP.
