The Management of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has clarified misleading media reports suggesting that the Authority is deploying its staff to work in select foreign countries.

In a press release, DVLA stated that recent headlines claiming the Authority had extended its services abroad by posting domestic staff to Ghana’s diplomatic missions were inaccurate.

According to Management, the initiative is actually a collaborative arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, designed to enable selected Ghanaian embassies and high commissions to provide specific DVLA services to qualified Ghanaians living overseas.

Under the pilot phase, services to be offered include the processing of International Driver’s Permits and driver’s licence renewals. The programme will be implemented at Ghanaian diplomatic missions in the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

As part of the rollout, designated embassy staff will be trained to verify applicants’ documents, which will then be forwarded to the DVLA in Ghana for processing. Completed documents will subsequently be returned to the respective embassies for collection by applicants.

“This operation does not, in any way, involve posting DVLA domestic staff to work at the embassies in these countries, as some media reports have suggested,” the statement emphasised.

Management reaffirmed its commitment to serving the interests of Ghanaians, noting that the Authority consistently pursues policies that bring services closer to the public, reduce defaults, and promote compliance.

DVLA further encouraged media houses and the public to contact its Corporate Affairs Department for clarification on operations to prevent the spread of misleading information.
