The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Ben Abdullah Alhassan, has dismissed claims that Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has seized a parcel of land allegedly belonging to the Ashanti Muslim Women Association.
His comments follow a recent protest by some members of the association, who claim ownership of the land in question. On Saturday, February 22, 2026, the group took to the streets of Asokore Mampong to express their displeasure over what they described as encroachment on their property.
Speaking on Luv FM, Mr. Alhassan clarified that the project on the land commenced less than three weeks ago, making allegations of forceful takeover unfounded.
“In fact, the profile for the project began less than three weeks ago. So anybody who begins to harbour the impression that the Honourable Member of Parliament has forcefully taken it from them is wrong,” he stated.
The Ashanti Muslim Women Association maintains that the land is jointly owned by them and the Ibadur Rahman Association and was originally designated for the construction of what is now known as the Ibadur Rahman Academy Senior High School.
Following the establishment of the school in Buoban, management reportedly faced severe financial and resource challenges, including difficulties in paying teachers, which led to the handover of the institution to the government.
However, the Ashanti Muslim Women Association contends that the decision was taken without their consent and is demanding the return of their share of the land.
Their concerns escalated after they discovered that a new project had commenced on the portion they claim, prompting the recent protest.
Mr. Alhassan, however, emphasized that the Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the area, has engaged both parties several times in an effort to resolve the matter amicably.
He cited a meeting held on December 26, 2025, during which the Minister met with members of the association to discuss possible solutions, some of which were reportedly accepted by certain members.
“He even sat with them and was literally begging. There were a few of them who agreed with him,” he said.
The MCE added that security at the site has been intensified to prevent further destruction of property, noting that any damage would ultimately be borne by the state.
He urged the association to pursue their grievances through lawful means.
“Nobody is stopping you from exploring all the options available to you, but please ensure that your actions are within the law,” he advised.
The dispute remains unresolved as both associations continue to assert their claims, while local authorities work toward a lasting settlement.
